Simple Cabbage Sabzi | Gobi Sabzi

Cabbage curry is my favorite. My husband loves the north indian version-'sabzi' for chapatis. Today I made such a simple cabbage sabzi that does not require any special ingredients but tastes great. Let's see how to make the sabzi.

Preparation time : 20 minutes
Cooking time : 25 minutes
Serves - 3

Ingredients:

Cabbage - 1 medium sized
Onion - 2 medium sized, finely chopped
Tomato - 1 finely chopped
Green chilli - 2
Ginger - 1 inch
Garlic - 5 cloves
Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
Red chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
Coriander powder - 1/2 tsp
Jeera powder - 1/2 tsp
Garam masala powder - 1/2 tsp
Salt - as required
Coriander leaves - for garnishing

Method:

Finely chop cabbage, onions, tomato, ginger and garlic; Vertically slit the green chillies.

Heat oil in a pan, add cumin seeds, when it splutters, add ginger, garlic and slit green chillies. Saute them for few seconds.
Add finely chopped onions and saute them till they turn golden brown.

Now add finely chopped tomato.

Then add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder and jeera powder. Mix well and cook until tomato becomes mushy.

Now add finely chopped cabbage, required salt and mix well.

Close the pan with a lid and cook for 15 minutes on low flame.
Now add garam masala powder and mix well.

Garnish with coriander leaves. Simple cabbage sabzi is ready to serve.
Tip:

You can add fresh peas or frozen peas to this recipe to make 'cabbage matar sabzi'.

Another version-'Aloo Gobhi Sabzi' (cabbage potato sabzi) could also be made using this same method.
