Simple Dal Fry | Dal Tadka

Dal fry/ dal tadka, a simple recipe, can be made very quickly. This dal goes well rotis, rice, and parathas. I made dal fry with tur dal. You can also use moong dal to make this recipe. Let's see how to make it.
Ingredients:
Tur dal - 1 cup
Onion - 1 big finely chopped
Tomato - 1 big finely chopped
Ginger garlic paste - 1 tsp
Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
Red chillies - 2
Oil - 1 tbsp
Asafoetida - 1 pinch
Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
Salt - as required
Water - as required
Coriander leaves - for garnishing

Method:
Wash and soak tur dal for 20 minutes. Add 1/2 tsp turmeric powder to tur dal and pressure cook for 3 whistles; mash well and keep aside.
Heat oil in a pan, add asafoetida, cumin seeds, and red chillies. When they splutter, add onion. Saute for some time; add ginger garlic paste. Saute until the raw flavor goes off.
Add finely chopped tomato, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and required salt. Saute until tomato turns mushy.
Add the cooked dal. Add required water to get the desired consistency.
 
Cover the lid and cook for 5 minutes. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve.
